The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) 2026 Annual Awards Gala was a vibrant and unforgettable celebration of culture, leadership, and community impact, bringing together distinguished guests and supporters from across Massachusetts’ Portuguese-speaking communities.
Held with elegance and purpose, the evening showcased the strength, resilience, and cultural richness of Portuguese-speaking communities throughout New England, while highlighting MAPS’ ongoing mission and impact.

Leadership and Community Impact at the Center of the Evening
Under the leadership of CEO Paulo Pinto, the gala once again stood out as a remarkable event celebrating the organization’s achievements and its vision for the future.

Strong leadership within MAPS was also honored, including Patrícia de Oliveira, President of the Board of Directors, whose dedication continues to strengthen the organization’s mission.
Together with Paulo Pinto and the MAPS team, their collective work has made a profound impact, serving more than 28,000 individuals over the past year alone and reinforcing MAPS as a vital anchor for Portuguese-speaking communities throughout Massachusetts.
Civic Leadership and Distinguished Guests
The evening also reflected the strong civic recognition of Portuguese-speaking communities, with distinguished public leaders in attendance, including Massachusetts Senator James Eldridge. His presence underscored the broader social and political significance of the work being carried out by MAPS across the Commonwealth.
By bringing together community advocates, business leaders, elected officials and cultural voices, the gala highlighted how Portuguese-speaking communities continue to contribute not only culturally, but also civically and economically throughout Massachusetts and New England.

A Celebration of Portuguese Culture Through Music
One of the most memorable moments of the evening was a live musical performance led by a band inspired by Berklee College of Music, presenting a rich and sophisticated repertoire of Portuguese music.
The performance featured So Alma, led by Portuguese vocalist Sofia Almeida, whose powerful and expressive voice captivated the audience and brought a deep sense of cultural pride to the celebration.
The music added an emotional and artistic dimension to an evening already marked by inspiration and community spirit.
Honoring Community Voices and Leadership
A special highlight of the gala was the recognition of Talita Teixeira, honored with distinction as a powerful and influential voice within the community through her dedicated work with the Bazar.

Her contributions were recognized as an important expression of cultural engagement, community connection, and grassroots impact.
The evening was co-hosted by Marcony Almeida Barros and Edna Monteiro Leith, who helped guide a memorable celebration honoring leaders and changemakers.
Supporters and Sponsors Making a Difference
The event was made possible in part through the generous support of Diamond Sponsors, including Dunkin’, as well as the Couto, Cafua, and Serpa families.
Their contributions helped elevate the evening while sustaining the vital programs and services MAPS provides to the community.
The Lasting Impact of MAPS in Massachusetts
More than a celebration, the 2026 MAPS Annual Awards Gala served as a powerful tribute to a community that continues to shape New England economically, socially, and culturally.
Portuguese-speaking communities, including Brazilian, Portuguese, and Cape Verdean voices, continue to make lasting contributions across the region, and MAPS remains central in empowering that future.
The gala was not only a recognition of achievement, but a reminder of the strength, unity, and growing influence of Portuguese-speaking communities throughout Massachusetts.
